Comments for Senior Kayak Angler

Senior Kayak Angler is a blog for people who love kayak fishing, but won't accept the lack of stability, comfort and storage, the back pain, wetness, restricted range of motion, and difficulty when launching and beaching their fishing kayaks. Kayak fishing should be pure fun, from beginning to end of every fishing trip.

Mike,
The W is easier to launch in the surf due to a number of unique features:
First, you can launch it while paddling from the rear of the cockpit, instead of the middle, which is the normal place. By paddling from the rear you lower the W's stern and lift its bow, thus making it easy to hop on the incoming waves instead of piercing through them, like other kayak require. It's not only easier, but it's also drier...
Senior paddlers and anglers often find it hard to launch in the surf, but not if they launch a W kayak.
BTW, the same it true for kids:

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlExfjFvDhU?rel=0&w=480&h=360]

Another advantage the W kayak offers in the surf, is the option to cover the cockpit, and thus prevent any spray from getting in. We don't want corrosive saltwater on our precious tackle, don't we? ;)

Been hooked on Kayak fishing since '97 when a friend and I modified an old lifeguards' sit-on-top rescue ski with a rod holder and not much else. No storage space at all - rods got lashed to the side carry straps, tackle and bait went in a pouch...
Things have changed since then, kayaking remains my favourite way to fish. (Good exercise too!)
The W500 kayak has an unusual design - plenty of space and that all important comfort factor. But I wonder how well it would do in some of the very difficult surf launches we have to negotiate locally.

billiyb,
Here's what the dictionary says about the word senior:
adjective
▸with a high rank or position
▸with a rank or position that is higher than someone else’s
▸older
▸involving old people

This blog is about and for people who won't put up with the kind of experience that other people are willing to accept as "Kayak Fishing", be it because they are more experienced with kayak fishing, and therefore have a clearer vision and even a disillusioned one, or because they are the kind of people who are always looking for the best gear and solutions. Such attitude can be related to a person's character and often to their age as well, and experience is often associated with age too. The older you get the more cautious you become, and the less gullible, and you tend to seek more information about things that you're interested in, and not get carried away. In the case of kayak fishing, the web is literally flooded with disinformation, both about the sport itself, as well as about the kayaks offered for practicing it, and we hope this blog will help correct this trend, and provide some insight for people who take themselves seriously, and this is our definition of Senior.
